Maria José is a qualified Academic Librarian with proven leadership in Intercultural Librarianship, Information Science, and Research Advisement. Currently, she serves as Library Coordinator and Head Librarian at the North|South Social Sciences Academic Library, at the Center for Social Sciences, University of Coimbra (UC). In 2020, She was an Invited Assistant Professor for the Information Science undergraduate program at the UC Faculty of Arts. Her credentials include a Doctoral Degree in Social & Juridical Science - Information (University of Salamanca, Spain, 2017); a Master¿s Degree in Library and Information Science ( Simmons University, formerly, the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, Boston, USA, 1991); and an Undergraduate Degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures - English/German (University of Coimbra, Portugal, 1982). She holds a Certificate in Pedagogical Competences in Training the Trainer and the State of Massachusetts Professional Librarian Certificate. She served/es on various academic committees and is enthusiastic about developing new opportunities for project engagement and Early Career Researchers (ECR) knowledge advancement. She also was the curator of several exhibits, coordinator of cultural programs, and coorganizer of various conferences. She was a guest speaker at conferences and a keynote speaker at several community events. During her, almost, 20 years of stay in the USA, she was the coordinator and cocoordinator of projects financed by the State of Massachusetts and several by the USA Federal Government. For services rendered on behalf of the Portuguese immigrants and Portuguese speaking communities, she was awarded a City of New Bedford Recognition Certificate, a State of Massachusetts distinction, and a United States of America Congressional distinction from the Offices of Senator Kerry and Senator Kennedy. A culturally competent Librarian/Teacher/Trainer, with a track record in advocating for diversity, inclusion, and social justice, her background demonstrates actions in: Wide-ranging support to Social Science research of Institutional Faculty, Researchers, and Doctoral students; ¿ Research advisory, provided to CES and university ECR and students, in general, as well as to students coming from other universities. Coordinator and cocoordinator of the Advanced Training "Publish-do-not-Perish: Survive the stampede" program, where she is responsible for the 1st Module targeting effective referencing, impact factors, plagiarism, and database searching. Expertise in Portuguese Immigrant Communities, Digital Libraries, and Information Inclusion/Exclusion concepts. A motivated Librarian/Teacher/Trainer she is enthusiastic about student success across diversified populations, providing training to foreign students, in Spanish and English, particularly for Early Career Researchers and Doctoral candidates.
