Maria Luísa Teixeira de Azevedo Rodrigues Corvo. Completed the Licenciatura in Química in 1986 by Faculdade de Ciências, Universidade de Lisboa and Doctor in Ciências da Saúde (Farmácia, Tecnologia Farmacêutica) in 1998 by Universiteit Utrecht. Is Principal Researcher with Habilitation in Faculdade de Farmácia, Universidade de Lisboa and integrated researcher at iMed.ULisboa (Drug Delivery & Immunoengineering Group - BioNanoScience). Has been working on the development of lipidic drug carrier nanosystems for the delivery anti-inflammatory or cancer drugs (small molecular weight to biopharmaceutics including enzymes). Systems developed and optimized were liposomes (attractive delivery systems) for the treatment and/or visualization of inflammatory diseases (ex. Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ischaemia/Reperfusion Injury, Inflammatory bowel diseases, diabetes) and cancer (ex: leukaemia, colorectal or lung carcinoma). The systems were developed to be administered parenteral via (SC, IV) or inhalation (DPI). Corvo has also been studying mechanisms of action of developed formulation and their correlation with biomarkers, tissue disposition and pharmacokinetics. Published 66 articles in journals, 7 books chapter and edited 1 book. Has participated as invited speaker in 18 scientific events and as selected oral comunications team in 21 congresses. Supervised 3 PhD thesis(es) and co-supervised 2. Supervised 21 MSc dissertation(s). Has received 3 awards and/or honors. Participated as Principal investigator in 7 project(s) and Researcher in 19 project(s).
