Andreia de Freitas Silva (AFS) excelled academically as the top freshman in Chemical Engineering at the University of Aveiro in 2009 and graduated with distinction in 2014, achieving a final grade of 17. During her Master's studies, she conducted research at Novozymes A/S in Denmark on enzymatic bleaching of kraft pulp, optimizing processes for novel enzymes under the supervision of Dr. Pedro Loureiro and Dr. Dmitry Evtyugin. In February 2015, AFS began her PhD at the University of Aveiro, supported by a grant from Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia. Her research, supervised by Dr. Anabela Valente and Dr. Carlos Silva, focused on olefin oligomerization using porous acid catalysts. During this time, she honed skills in heterogeneous catalysis, catalyst preparation and characterization, gas chromatography, and statistical optimization for producing diesel-range products. She earned her PhD in March 2019. Post-PhD, AFS worked at CICECO, University of Aveiro, on the project "Bio-derived olefins conversion using reaction-induced self-separating catalysts" (2019-2021), developing Zr- and Hf-based hybrid materials for converting bio-based chemicals and studying their applications. She also performed mechanistic modeling using Matlab and supervised an MSc student. Later, as part of the GCork project (February–June 2024), she renovated a gas adsorption setup, studied VOC removal from cork, conducted breakthrough curve analyses on various materials, and developed novel adsorbents from modified zeolites. She also supervised an Erasmus student. Since November 2023, AFS has been a researcher in the H2Driven Green Agenda project at the University of Porto, leading sub-projects on methanol production and valorization to dimethyl ether and sustainable fuels contributing to mitigating climate change. With 16 co-authored articles in international journals, an h-index of 10, and 282 citations, she has also delivered 37 presentations at scientific conferences. Her work reflects a strong commitment to advancing sustainable chemical engineering solutions.
