I earned a bachelor’s degree in Applied Chemistry from the Nova School of Science and Technology and a master’s degree in Pharmaceutical and Therapeutical Chemistry from the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Lisbon. During my master’s thesis, I commenced my professional career with an internship at Hovione Farmaciência, where I immersed myself in Current Good Manufacturing Practice (CGMP) Regulations and international standards. Transitioning to Recipharm in 2019, I started as an Analytical Chemist and in 2022 I advanced to Senior Analytical Chemist. During this tenure, I conducted analyses of final products using various analytical techniques, significantly contributing to the validation of numerous product methods. Since October 2022, I have been an integral part of the esteemed Glycoimmunology group at UCIBIO research unit, renowned for groundbreaking research on the role of glycans in immune responses, particularly in cancer immunotherapy (https://sites.fct.unl.pt/glycoimmunology/). The group collaborates extensively with clinical teams, Biotech and Pharma companies, and patient associations on several multidisciplinary national and international Glycosciences projects. I notably contributed to the DCMatters project, focused on studying the use of vaccines in advanced tumors. As a Masters researcher, I developed an in-silico approach comprising QSAR modeling, molecular docking, and virtual screening to discover lead-like small-molecule checkpoint PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors, fostering synergy among entities such as Stemmatters, IPO Porto, CINTESIS, and our group. Currently, I am involved in the ProDGNE project, a 3-year transnational research endeavor aimed at developing a therapeutic compound for GNE Myopathy (GNEM), funded under the European Joint Programme on Rare Diseases. In this project, I contribute my knowledge in pharmaceutical regulations and consolidate my cheminformatics skills while learning new approaches and techniques to enhance the collective efforts of the team. I contributed to NOVA FCT initiatives, promoting the Navmol project for molecule representation by blind users, culminating in participation as an investigator at the European Researchers' Night 2023. Additionally, I've been involved in developing a Moodle glycoimmunology course with the Pedagogical Innovation Office from NOVA FCT and managing social media for our group Glycoimmunology. I authored " Computational Approaches Drive Developments in Immune-Oncology Therapies for PD-1/PD-L1 Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors", published in IJMS with an impact factor of 5.6 and Q1 ranking, earning four citations within a year. Additionally, I co-authored "Generation of monocyte-derived dendritic cells with differing sialylated phenotypes," published in JoVE, renowned for its peer-reviewed scientific video protocols. Its associated videos have nearly 1900 views. Moreover, I have two articles in submission—one from my work at Hovione and another from the DCMatters project. I'm also working on an article related to the ProDGNE project. I presented my DCMatters work at two international conferences: the “23rd Tetrahedron Symposium” in Gothenburg, Sweden, and the “NOVA Health Chronic Disease and Infection” in Lisbon, Portugal, where I won Best Poster. Additionally, I attended the workshop “Together we are the strongest: breaking the limit of protein-carbohydrate interactions” in Siena, Italy, organized by Prof. Cristina Nativi, which enhanced my understanding of glyco-related projects and further developed my skills.
