Patrícia's main areas of study are Castanea sp. tissue culture, genetic transformation, histopathology, and molecular biology. She is currently the Assistant Director of the American Chestnut Research and Restoration Project at SUNY ESF and the postdoc leading the research on the development of blight-tolerant Ozark Chinquapins (Castanea ozarkensis). During her MS, she developed research regarding the optimization and molecular analysis of the somatic embryogenesis process in solanaceous species. After the MS, she worked in the industrial sector as a researcher in the UC-InProPlant Association, optimizing protocols for in vitro culture enabling the mass propagation of several plant species with economical interest. Her Ph.D. research focused on understanding the host-pathogen interaction of Castanea spp. with Phytophthora cinnamomi (root rot), by using plant tissue culture, genetic transformation, transcriptomics and histopathology. Also interested in innovation, she learned how to create value in science by acquiring a wide range of knowledge from entrepreneurship to business, through a post-graduation at NOVA School of Business and Economics.
