Manuela Pires Rosa is graduated in Civil Engineering from the Instituto Superior Técnico, obtained her M.Sc. in Renovation of Architectural and Landscape Heritage from the Universidade de Évora and the Ph.D. in Spatial Planning and Environmental Strategies from Universidad de Sevilla, Facultad de Geografía e Historia, España. She is Coordinator Professor at Institute of Engineering of University of Algarve, where she lectures Sustainable Cities, Accessible Tourism, Sustainable Tourism, etc. She is a researcher of CinTurs - Research Centre for Tourism, Sustainability and Well-being and participates in financed scientific projects and international pilot-studies. She was the coordinator of the ACCES4ALL Project - Project Accessibility for all in Tourism (2017-2019) and co-coordinator of the Project SusTowns - Enhancing SUStainable tourism attraction in small fascinating med TOWNS (2019-2022). She is an integrated member of the Research Centre for Tourism, Sustainability and Well-being CinTurs, which is financed by National Funds provided by FCT- Foundation for Science and Technology through project UIDB/04020/2020 and with DOI 10.54499/UIDB/04020/2020 (https://doi.org/10.54499/UIDB/04020/2020). Areas of research and special interest include the 15 min cities, proximity urbanism, sustainable urban mobility, inclusive mobility, universal accessibility, inclusive and universal design, accessible tourism and sustainable tourism. She has published in these fields and develops book chapters, conference papers and journal articles. She is reviewer of scientific journals. In 2021, she was member of an Expert Panel of the transnational Urban Transformation Capacities call for research and innovation proposals (ENUTC), developed by the Joint Programming Initiative Urban Europe (JPI UE), and co-funded by the European Commission. She was key speaker in a webinar organized by the United Nations Academic Impact (New York, United States) about “Urban Sustainability and Lessons learned from COVID-19”. In 2022, she collaborated in a parallel event of COP 27 organized by the Environmental Agency of São Paulo, Brazil, about “Nature based Solutions for Urban Sustainability and Resilience”. She collaborated in the Engineering Ethics toolkit of the Engineering Professors’ Council/Royal Academy of Engineering of United Kingdom, being presently Ethics Ambassador.
