Gabriela Gonçalves has a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry by the University of Porto and has completed in 2020 her master's degree in Food Science and Technology. In 2018 she studied the effects of trypsin proteolysis in transthyretin and associated amyloidogenesis in the Molecular Neurobiology group in i3S, Porto, where she produced and purified recombinant proteins and subsequent proteolysis assays. In 2019 she was an intern in the Food Quality and Technology group in LABQV-REQUIMTE, Porto, aiming to develop bio-inspired pigments for application as pH sensors in functional food packages. This work contributed to a published paper in the international journal Synlett (Q2), in the area of organic chemistry. In 2020 she enrolled in the Nutrition and Immunobiology group of CIIMAR as a master student to develop her dissertation using probiotic Bacillus spores as delivery vehicles to develop an oral effective vaccine for aquaculture. This work was presented at the 5th AquaImprove - Aquaculture Research Workshop organized by CIIMAR in November 2020 and allowed the engaged research team in the project to win the BIP PROOF 2021 funding. Since her master's degree conclusion, Gabriela has presented this work in IJUP 2021 – 14th Meeting of Young Researchers of University of Porto and in the Animal Health Symposium 2021, receiving distinctions for both oral presentations. During her professional experiences, Gabriela obtained knowledge in techniques like HPLC, SDS-PAGE, Western blot, Phase-Contrast and fluorescence microscopy and PCR. She also has experience in the growth of microorganisms, production of recombinant proteins, cloning methods in E. coli and B. subtilis, production and purification of spores from Bacillus species and maintenance of zebrafish larvae.
