Célio Fernandes obtained his Education of Mathematics degree from the University of Minho (Portugal), where he received the Engineer António de Almeida Award, prize for students with the best final graduation score (16/20). After graduating, C. Fernandes obtained his Applied Mathematics MSc degree at the University of Porto (Portugal). During this period, C. Fernandes has employed spectral methods to describe the melt flow which occours in the polymer extrusion process. Afterwards, C. Fernandes joined the Department of Polymer and Composites at the University of Minho (Portugal) where he completed his Ph.D. degree in Science and Engineering of Polymers and Composites in December 2012. During this period, C. Fernandes made important contributions to the field of Injection Molding Process by applying multi-objective evolutionary algorithms to solve the inverse problem of finding the best injection molding parameters to achieve predefined criterias. During his post-doctoral studies, C. Fernandes has been working with the open-source computational fluid dynamics library OpenFOAM. He has established new numerical methods for the solution of viscoelastic matrix based fluids using the finite volume method. His main findings during this period were published in some of the top journals in the field, namely Acta Biomaterialia (Q1, 10/89, IF=8.947), Engineering with Computers (Q1, 4/133, IF=7.963), Applied Thermal Engineering (Q1, 12/130, IF=5.295), Polymers (Q1, 18/90, IF=4.967), Computers and Fluids (Q1, 32/133, IF=3.013) and Journal of Non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics (Q1, 25/133, IF=2.670). He has published 49 papers in peer-reviewed ISI journals (including 4 book-chapters), 2 books, ~70posters and presentations (12 documents/year from 2019 to 2023). He carried out research abroad at MIT/USA, UZAG/Croatia, CINECA/Italy, TXSU/USA and ICMC/Brazil. In the last 5 years, he became a member of 3 editorial international journals, Polymers (Q1, IF=4.329), Micromachines (Q2, IF=2.891) and Applied Sciences (Q2, IF=2.838), and has reviewed +50 papers. He was also an organizer/member of 23 conference committees and was invited for event participation has a speaker in 20 conferences. C. Fernandes was awarded as PI of 7 FCT projects. Additionally, he participates/ed in 8 R&D national funded projects by FCT and ANI. Finally, he is/was co-PI in 2 international funded projects and was awarded as PI in 2 international HPC calls. Since 2016 he has taught various subjects such as Computational Mechanics in Polymer Engineering, Modeling of Polymer Processing and Behavior, Graphic Representation I and Plastic Extrusion A II. He has supervised (or I am currently supervising) and mentoring/tutoring 11 post-doc/researchers scholars, 5 PhD students and 15 Master Thesis. He has examined as jury member 4 PhD candidates and 10 Master students. After his PhD degree, C. Fernandes published 96.4% (27/28) of the publications (without PhD supervisors), in the last 5 years 62.5% (15/24) being the first author, or corresponding author or the last author, from which 73.3% (11/15) were published in Q1 peer-reviewed journals. In addition, his publication indices in Scopus have increased in the last 5 years from 9 to 49 documents in the present. In the same period, the citations of his work increased from 13 to 514 citations and his last 5 years h-index evolution reflects also an increase from 3 to 12 (Scopus accessed on 1 March 2024).
