Leonor is a research fellow at UCIBIO-Mitochondria and Neurobiology. She is also a 1st year pharmaceutical sciences PhD student at the faculty of pharmacy, U.Porto and was awarded a PhD fellowship from Fundação para Ciência e a Tecnologia. She is currently interested in studying differential vulnerability in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly TDP-43 proteinopathies such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). In 2023, Leonor successfully concluded the Integrated Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences (17/20, ECTS grade A) by the University of Porto Faculty of Pharmacy. During her undergraduate studies, Leonor was a research trainee at Applied Chemistry Lab, Dep. Chemical Sciences at the Faculty of Pharmacy, U.Porto., under the supervision of Prof.ª Marcela Segundo. There, she had the opportunity to study the applicability of smartphones for colorimetric analysis of antibiotics in natural waters. During this period, Leonor developed the scientific poster: "Digital image analysis-a comparative study", presented at IJUP2021. In 2022, Leonor was also a research trainee at the UCIBIO Mitochondria and Neurobiology Lab, at the Faculty of Pharmacy, U.Porto, under the supervision of Prof. Jorge Oliveira. There, she had the opportunity to do preliminary research on the applicability of the zebrafish model to study developmental diseases like Wolcott-Rallison Syndrome through pharmacological modulation of PERK. The data collected by Leonor was used to develop: a scientific report for her undergraduate studies and several oral and poster presentations at meetings like IJUP, meetings of the Portuguese Pharmacology Society and a meeting of the Portuguese Physiology Society. Leonor was awarded Best Oral Communication in Health Sciences for her oral presentation at IJUP2022. Leonor was also involved in the investigation, data analyses and writing for the pre-print paper: “Zebrafish as a model to study PERK function in developmental diseases: implications for Wolcott-Rallison syndrome”. In 2023, Leonor carried out two curricular internships: an internship at Hospital Privado de Braga (Jan 2023 - Fev 2023) pharmacy and an internship at Farmácia da Misericórdia de Braga (Mar 2023 - Jul 2023) where she worked part-time.
