Ana Isabel is a PhD in Psychology from ISCTE - Lisbon University Institute. She concluded her PhD in 2024, with a thesis entitled 'Correlates of music training: Plasticity or predispositions?'. She has a Master's degree in Psychology from the University of Porto, which she concluded in 2016 (thesis entitled ‘Brain structure correlates of emotional speech prosody in children’). She held research assistant positions at the University of Porto (Center for Psychology at University of Porto, CPUP, 2017–2018) and Iscte-University Institute of Lisbon (Centre for Psychological Research and Social Intervention, CIS, 2018–2019), contributing to two funded projects investigating vocal communication, emotion, and musical expertise. Combining experimental methods and neuroimaging techniques, one of her main research focus lies in the understanding of the associations between musical expertise and nonmusical variables, such as emotion recognition and perceptual abilities. She has authored 13 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals (e.g., Neuroimage, Behavior Research Methods, Neuroscience and Biobehavioral Reviews), including 7 as the first author, in collaboration with 14 researchers from national and international institutions.
