Laura Aelenei is senior researcher at National Laboratory of Energy and Geology (LNEG). She holds a PhD in Civil Engineering, sub-field Building Physics (heat transfer, fluid dynamics), from Technical University of Lisbon (IST-UTL), Portugal (2006). She graduated in Civil Engineering, and obtained an MSc in Civil Engineering, sub-field Building Rehabilitation from Technical University Gh. Asachi, Iasi, Romania. After her PhD she worked as a post-doctoral researcher at Instituto Nacional de Engenharia Tecnologia e Inovação (INETI), Renewable Energies Department (DER) from 2007 to 2009. In 2009 integrates the Energy in Built Environment Research Unit (UEAC) and Energy Efficiency Unit (UEE) in 2012, at Laboratório Nacional de Energia e Geologia (LNEG) working as post-doctoral researcher. Since 2017 she is Scientific Coordinator for the Research Area Energy in Built Environment at LNEG. At LNEG, over her scientific carrier, she developing new research lines, setting up the required conditions and securing financial funding to support her research. Her research interests are broad from buildings energy efficiency and renewable energy systems integrated in buildings with special focus on solar energy systems integration in building façades to new buildings concepts as Net Zero Energy Buildings and Communities and Interactive buildings in the context of Smart Cities. She is co-editor and co-author of more than 50 publications (journal, book and book chapter or conference proceeding) and since 2009, is author of more than 30 national and European proposals for R&D projects. Among the several projects that she coordinates or participates, the most important ones are: NZEB_LAB Research Infrastructure of Solar Energy Systems Integration (coordination), FRAME – Prefabricated systems for low energy buildings: design, modulation, prototyping and testing, R&D research project on building integration of renewable energy system combined with energy storage, financed by FCT (coordination), H2020 IDEAS Novel building Integration Designs for increased Efficiencies in Advanced Climatically Tunable Renewable Energy Systems (LNEG coordination and WP leader), FP7 project Republic_ZEB - Refurbishment of the Public Building stock towards nZEB (LNEG coordination and WP leader), EBA Energy in Buildings Academy - Developing Massive Open Online Courses - KIC InnoEnergy (LNEG coordination and WP leader), Towards Net Zero Energy Solar Buildings, project in the frame of the bilateral cooperation between Solar Heating and Cooling (SHC) and International Energy Agency (IEA) where she acts as a National Expert, EERA - EUROPEAN ENERGY RESEARCH ALLIANCE - Smart Cities Joint Programme, (EERA JPSC) coordinator of the Sub-Programme 3: Energy-efficient Interactive Buildings and coordinator of the Module 2 Positive Energy Districts Laboratories (PED-Lab) in the new work structure of EERA JPSC regarding implementation of the Set Plan Action 3.2 Positive Energy Districts, EBC Annex 67, Energy Flexible Buildings, SusCity – Urban Data Driven Models for creative and resourceful urban transition (in collaboration with MIT-USA), FIRST – Mapping flexibility of urban energy systems (in collaboration with MIT-USA), COST Action TU0802 Next generation cost effective phase change materials for increased energy efficiency in renewable energy systems in buildings (NeCoE-PCM), COST Action TU1205 Building Integration of Solar Thermal Systems (BISTS) acting as National Delegate and COST Action TU1403 acting as Working group leader. Laura is also Invited Professor and coordinator of the of Energy Efficiency studies at the Master of Energy and Environment Engineering at FCUL –Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, reviewer for international Journals: Renewable Energy Journal, Energies and ASME Journal of Solar Energy Engineering: Including Wind Energy and Building Energy Conservation, Energy and Buildings, Solar Energy, Sustainable Cities and Communities.
