António Figueiredo (AF) is Assistant Researcher at RISCO Research Unit, in the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Aveiro (UAVR). AF completed in 2016 his PhD with European recognition from EPFL in Switzerland and TUL in Poland in the fields of Energy Efficiency and Comfort Strategies for Southern European Buildings, Passive House and Phase Change Materials (PCM). AF is a local coordinator in the European programme “EIT Climate-KIC: Pioneers into Practice”, contributing as host for the UAVR, participating with a work plan focused on low carbon economy toward mitigation of climate change impact. AF has also been a member of the organizing and scientific committee in several international conferences, and is member of the editorial board in international journals. Regarding the interaction with society and industry, since 2017 AF is the vice-president of the PassivHaus Zero Energy Association, with the mission of connecting the research developed with private companies and owners and has been lecturer in several short-lectures on the topics of building physics. AF has also been developing scientific research in collaboration with relevant industry players, such as Saint-Gobain and 5DHome, specifically in regard to the construction of two pilots for the development of construction solutions incorporating PCMs (see https://construir.saint-gobain.pt/noticias/projeto-thermacore-tiny-houses). Main R&D and cooperation activities have been centered in building physics and material science, namely in the developing and testing of innovative materials, building components and whole building dynamic simulation. AF is author/co-author of 60+ publications (43 SCI papers leading to a current h-index of 17) and in the last 5 years has participated in 6 R&D projects aiming to contribute for the development of a sustainable and resilient building stock. AF is also the Principal Investigator of 1 European project, with funding from EEA Grants Portugal & Norway Partnerships for Innovation Project, focusing the development of renewable energy sources and energy storage. AF also guides students of PhD and MSc in the themes of energy efficiency, novel components solutions for buildings applications and thermal comfort. The research performed by AF aims to contribute for the development of a sustainable and resilient building stock, able to adequately face societal challenges, particularly related to climate change, well-being, and energy efficiency, introducing and promoting innovative and renewable energy systems, use of novel functionalized materials, and use of evolutionary algorithms for optimal buildings design.
