Fátima Oliveira Martins concluded the PhD in Experimental Biology and Biomedicine in 2014 from University of Coimbra. Previously she got a MSc in Biochemistry in 2010 and a Bachelor degree also in biochemistry in 2006 from University of Coimbra . She is affiliated assistant professor and researcher at Nova Medical School / Universidade Nova de Lisboa where she study the mechanisms involved on metabolic diseases by going from the the gut, passing the adipose tissue and the liver and reaching the carotid body and the brain. She published more than 20 papers in peer-review journals and presented many oral and poster communications on the most important international and national meetings in her research area. She has been enrolled in the supervision and co-supervision of many undergraduate and Master students projects and in 1 PhD student co-supervision. She won also many prizes for best communications, best student, etc. She also created a biotech startup in 2015 with the intention to develop a new methodology for the diagnostic of intestinal permeability alterations. Finally, she has been enrolled in many outreach activities like the Brain Awareness Week, the European Researchers Night, the Discovery Day of diabetes from the European Association for the Research in Animals, etc.
