Vania C. Pinto is a Junior Researcher in the Microelectromechanical Systems Research Unit - CMEMS and LABBELS Associate Laboratory, at University of Minho, and, since 2019, a Visiting Assistant Professor at the same university (teaching curricular units such as Biosensors, Bionanotechnology, Introduction to Microsystems and Microtechnologies, among others). She is graduated in Biotechnology Engineering with master's in Micro/Nano Technologies. In May 2017, she finished her PhD in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Minho, with the theme: "Microfluidic Immunosensor for salivary cortisol". She was awarded, in 2021 with a junior Researcher Contract - Stimulus of Scientific Employment, Individual Support (CEECIND), reference 2021.01087.CEECIND - 4th Edition (2021), for 6 years, funded by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT). V.C. Pinto was Postdoctoral Researcher in the FoodSens European granted project (EU- POCTEP-Interreg, reference 0591_FOODSENS) at Microelectromechanical Systems Research Unit in University of Minho, developing a LoC for in-situ toxic phytoplankton identification by combining microfluidic flow cytometry with optoelectronics. This project led to her cooperation with national (ICETA, LEICAR) and international (ANFACO & CSIC, Spain) institutions and researchers. During her scientific activities, she has been enrolled in 10 R&D projects (being Principal Investigator at 1 of them: Lab-on-a-chip for in situ toxic phytoplankton identification and quantification, DOI 10.54499/2021.01087.CEECIND/CP1664/CT0020), published 19 papers in specialized international journals (3 more submitted), 12 papers as proceedings of scientific meetings, 1 section(s) of books, 2 provisional Portuguese Patent submitted, 1 provisional international Patent submitted and 1 European patent application, having more than 270 citations and h-index: 8 (Scopus). V.C. Pinto supervise 1 PhD student (FCT grant) of International Doctoral Programme Do*Mar, untitled "Lab-on-a-chip for in situ toxic phytoplankton identification and quantification" and 3 master student (2 of them finalized). She was also guest-editor of one Special Issues related to Micro/Nano Devices: "Novel Technology and Applications of Micro/Nano Devices and System", Applied Sciences (ISSN 2076-3417, IF 2.474). Her main research area is Biomedical Microsystems, focusing on lab-on-a-chip devices, microfluidics, microfabrication techniques, immunosensors, optical detection and marine monitoring device.
