I began my educational journey at the age of five, developing discipline, creativity, and teamwork skills early on. At nine, I enrolled in the Conservatório Regional de Música de Castelo Branco, where I completed a comprehensive artistic education in accordion, theory, composition, choir, and music history. I performed in concerts across Portugal, the islands, and the Czech Republic, collaborated with the Primavera Musical international festival, and was a member of folk orchestras and the Orfeão de Castelo Branco choir. In parallel, I played volleyball throughout secondary school and university, strengthening collaboration and leadership skills. In 2002, after finishing secondary school and briefly attending the Portuguese Military Academy, I began a degree in Biotechnological Engineering at the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, later transferring to the University of Algarve in 2003. The program transitioned into an Integrated Master’s under the Bologna Process, including a six-month mobility period at Lund University (Sweden), where I carried out my Master’s research and dissertation. My academic work focused on enzyme expression of archaeal origin and enzymatic biodiesel production at industrial scale, providing a strong technical foundation in biotechnology and applied biological systems. In 2009, I joined the Environmental Engineering and Biotechnology Laboratory (LEBA) at the University of Algarve as a research fellow in the ALFAETÍLICO project. Until 2011, I co-authored publications, presented at national and international conferences, and participated in projects on bioethanol production and prion infectivity, while also mentoring interns. Following the birth of my first daughter, I collaborated with the Centre for Biomedical Research (CBME) on infectivity studies, but limited funding led me to pursue new professional experiences outside academia. I worked as a supervisor at Bosch, overseeing robotic lawnmower systems, and later as manager of a bar in Quinta do Lago, demonstrating resilience and adaptability. In 2015, with the birth of my second daughter, I completed a certified trainer course and later joined the JBI Group (Hubel Cooperative) as a team leader in the agricultural sector, applying skills in team management, quality control, and operations while steadily earning promotions. In 2018, I returned to the University of Algarve as Secretary of the Centre for Marine and Environmental Research (CIMA). In this role, I have applied my combined scientific, managerial, and communication skills to support research projects, institutional communication, and the organization of national and international events. My work has contributed to increasing CIMA’s visibility and strengthening connections between academia, stakeholders, and local communities. Today, my main professional and research interests lie at the intersection of science, cultural/artistic production, and community engagement, with a focus on coastal resilience and sustainable development. I am particularly motivated to explore participatory and arts-based methodologies as innovative tools for knowledge transfer, reinforcing the link between science and society.
