Carla Maria Nobre Maleita completed her PhD in Biology-Ecology in 2012 from University
of Coimbra (UC). Currently, she is developing her research activities in the Instituto
Nacional de Investigação Agrária e Veterinária (INIAV, I.P.), Unidade Estratégica
de Investigação e Serviços de Sistemas Agrários e Florestais e Sanidade Vegetal, in
the Laboratory of Nematology. Since her PhD, the general objectives of the conducted
research were to characterize morphobiometrical, biochemical and molecularly root-knot
nematodes (RKN) and root-lesion nematodes (RLN) species and contribute for the knowledge
of its biology, ecology and management. Currently, In addition to the aforementioned
interests and the provision of services to the community, her research focus on the
development of innovative, integrated and sustainable strategies for the management
of RKN/RLN, through the development of fully degradable in soil bionematicide delivery
systems based on the use of phytocompounds from agricultural residues/essential oils/fungi.
She was coordinating a project on RKN management (BioNem Mulch) and co-coordinating
another on diagnosis of emerging RKN species (KnowLuci) and coordinated the MeloRisk
project (Euphresco). Participate/participated in 7 national and 3 international projects.
She is the author/co-author of more 40 articles and 10 abstracts published in international
scientific peer review journals; 12 technical communications; and >50 DNA sequences
(GenBank). Participated in national/international scientific meetings [19 oral (presenter
and/or co-author) and >70 poster communications). Moreover, she has been or is involved
in (co)supervision/tutorial of post-doctoral researchers and PhD, MSc, BSc and undergraduate
students. She act as reviewer of several manuscripts; was guest editor in Plants and
Frontiers in Plant Science; and participated in juries for academic examinations/selection
boards. She has been involved in the organization of events; and attended 27 scientific
meetings (17 international/10 national). She has also collaborated in practical/theoretical
lectures and has organized/participated in science dissemination activities.
