Nuno Pereira (orcid.org/0000-0001-6370-9373) is a Professor at Instituto Superior de Engenharia do Porto (ISEP) with extensive experience in real-time and embedded systems, cybersecurity, and, most recently, augmented reality and edge computing architectures. He holds a PhD from the University of Minho (2010) and has over 20 years of experience in teaching, research, and industry collaboration. From 2019-2022, Nuno was a Visiting Scholar at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), Pittsburgh. He served as Executive Director of the CONIX research center, where he helped coordinate research activities across seven major US universities and a team of over 150 researchers. Nuno co-taught the Introduction to Embedded Systems course at CMU during this time. He was one of the main contributors to the ARENA (Augmented Reality Edge Networking Architecture) platform, which was designed to facilitate the development of mixed reality (XR) applications and provides an initial prototype for future distributed computing environments addressing latency-sensitive applications at the edge. Nuno also held previous Visiting Researcher Positions at Mid-Sweden University (2017) and CMU (2017). Nuno's research spans wireless sensor networks, real-time systems, IoT technologies, and immersive mixed-reality environments. He has contributed to over 75 technical-scientific publications in high-quality forums. Nuno also participated in more than 15 research projects (3 as Principal Investigator) and regularly serves as a reviewer for international conferences and journals. Finally, Nuno also carried out professional cybersecurity-related activities, such as security audits for national companies, and is a co-inventor of 5 pending or granted patents, most resulting from industry collaborations.
