Marta Ribeiro is graduated in Biomedical Engineering and received her PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP), work dedicated to the design and development of multifunctional composite hydrogels to promote bone tissue regeneration and impair microbial adhesion. Her PhD has been done in collaboration with the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (INEB)/Institute for Research and Innovation in Health (i3S) (Portugal), University of Campinas (Brazil) and University of Basque Country/Institute for Polymer Materials (POLYMAT) (Spain). Currently, she is a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (CIQUP), Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP), in collaboration with the Laboratory for Process Engineering, Environment, Biotechnology and Energy (LEPABE)-FEUP. Her research project is mainly focused on the development of novel antimicrobial approaches, particularly using molecules of natural origin, for effective control of microbial biofilms. During her scientific career, Marta Ribeiro published (as first author) 10 articles in high quality peer-reviewed journals (original and review) and 4 book chapters. Her work has been disseminated through 18 communications either oral (6 by invitation) or poster in national and international conferences/scientific events. Marta Ribeiro has been involved in 4 research projects and in supervision activities of several MSc students/undergraduate MSc research works. She also actively contributes as reviewer for several renewed journals (e.g. Biotechnology Advances, Acta Biomaterialia, Biofouling). Marta Ribeiro research interests lie in advanced biomaterials, including hydrogels and composites, and biofilm-related infections.
