JORGE TEIXEIRA completed his PhD in Biology in 2002 from the University of Porto, Faculty of Sciences; the Master's degree in Plant Physiology and Biochemistry in 1998 from the University of Lisbon, Faculty of Sciences; and a Degree in Biology in 1994 from the University of Porto, Faculty of Sciences. He is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto. He has published numerous articles in specialised journals. He has 1 book chapter. He (co)supervised doctoral theses and dozens of master's degrees. He received the Commendation Award for Pedagogy - Biology degree - Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto. The research activity focuses on the use of Solanum sp. for phytoremediation/biofortification and to understand the specific responses of these species to stresses caused by heavy metals and organic pollutants using molecular biology and biochemistry appraoches. Other interests include: Oxidative stress in higher plants and its application for improved stress tolerance; Nitrogen metabolism in plants of agronomic interest and strategies to increase N content and nutritional value.
