Joana Valente started her scientific path working with polymers, 3DP, materials characterization and drug delivery systems (DDS) development. Then, she went to work on an FCT project and gained expertise with affinity chromatography and plasmid DNA (pDNA) purification and with techniques of analysis of pDNA purity. During this time she started her PhD with an individual FCT grant to work with commercial and novel chromatographic matrices, to accomplish the recovery of the supercoiled (sc) isoform of different pDNA. She established partnerships with international companies and she did an internship at UCBIO-FCT which led her to acquire unevaluable knowledge in the ligands immobilization field. As a postdoc researcher (2019), she is developing different drug carriers and antimicrobial materials and, she is pursuing the development of more efficient chromatographic supports conventionally produced or using AM methodologies. Several stages of this work have the support of companies and researchers (from national and international entities). She is/was the supervisor of 9 undergraduate students, 4 master's students (1 completed in collaboration with Sartorius and 3 ongoings) and 2 doctoral students (both funded by FCT). She is a team member of 6 projects funded by national agencies and 1 European project. Among these projects, she is the PI of two projects funded by the PRR - Bioshoes4all (~2M€) and Packaging of the Future (~1.4M€). In both projects, among other objectives, it is intended the development and characterization of different bio/recycled base materials/mixtures. She was the principal investigator (PI) of the project coPOLY (298.320,48¿). She is responsible for 2 laboratories at CDRSP, reviewer of different international journals, guest editor on Pharmaceutics, part of the conference organizing committee, part of the CDRSP scientific council and academic juries. Main scientific achievements: several publications in peer review journals (as first and last author as well as part of the team); a patent related AM with chromatography; promoting the industry (national and international companies) interest in the different works that I am developing; ability to catch funding (PI and part of the team); the beginning of her scientific team.
