Carina Gomes Coimbra. She completed her Bachelor degree in Biochemistry in 2013 by the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Beira Interior and then her Master's degree, also in Biochemistry, in 2015 by the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of Coimbra. She is currently a PhD student at the University of Coimbra, conducting research in environmental microbiology and bioremediation. Published 4 articles in different journals. Organized 1 event and participated in 7 events. The area of scientific activity is more focused on environments (mines, soils or water) contaminated with heavy metals, which in turn are considered toxic to their environment and consequently to the population that surrounds them. The creation of a biological tool (biotool), more resistant and economical, in the removal of metal from contaminated sites (bioremediation), is my main objective. Over the years Carina has gained experience in different molecular biology techniques (like cloning, directed mutagenesis, RAPD, 16S, inverted PCR, real-time PCR and qPCR), extraction of genomic DNA, plasmid DNA, total environmental DNA, and RNA. User-independent of gene sequencing data analysis software (Sanger and NGS), and experienced in bioinformatics analysis. Carina was included as a "staff" in the organization of workshops and congresses. She also guided internal students of the University of Coimbra (master thesis, bachelor project and laboratory rotation), foreign students (Erasmus program) as well as students of the 12th year (Leiria Secondary school) to carry out the Biology discipline (Resources and Sustainability Unit).
