Amélia Lemos Ormonde holds a BSc in Biochemistry (2022) from the Faculty of Science and Technology and an MSc in Molecular and Translational Neurosciences (2024) from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Coimbra. Her academic training has focused on neurovascular biology, with an emphasis on the cellular and molecular mechanisms regulating brain barrier function. She has developed research experience in blood–brain barrier (BBB) integrity and neurovascular interactions across physiological and pathological contexts. Her work includes studies on BBB dysfunction in traumatic brain injury and methamphetamine exposure, as well as research on neuroinflammation in ADHD and RNA-based therapeutic approaches for neurodegenerative disorders such as Machado–Joseph disease. These projects involved experimental work using in vitro and animal models, alongside molecular and cellular biology techniques. Through this experience, she has gained skills in experimental design, data analysis, and interdisciplinary collaboration. She is also actively engaged in scientific writing and science communication, contributing to manuscript preparation and mentoring initiatives. She was recently awarded a master’s fellowship to join the Advanced Therapies Group, led by Lino Ferreira, where she is currently working on advanced therapeutic strategies and translational approaches in vascular research. Her current interests focus on neurovascular and neuroimmune interactions during early brain development, particularly their roles in shaping neonatal brain physiology and vulnerability to injury. She is also interested in how neurovascular mechanisms evolve during ageing and influence disease susceptibility. She aims to pursue a career in translational neuroscience, contributing to research that bridges fundamental neurobiology and clinical application to improve brain health across the lifespan.
