Sónia Cordeiro Dos Santos is a PhD student in Biomedical Sciences at the Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de Lisboa funded by a PhD Scholarship from the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT PhD Scholarship 2023.05000.BDANA), with the project "Data-Driven Phenotyping in Heart Failure with preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF)", collaborating with the Center for Innovative Care and Health Technology (ciTechCare), an R&D Unit from Politécnico de Leiria (FCT/UI/05704/2020) as a research fellow, and with the Unidade Local de Saúde da Região de Leiria (ULS RL), developing both practical and scientific activities. Holding a MSc in Cardiovascular Rehabilitation and a BSc in Clinical Physiology, her research areas and interests are mainly focused on heart failure, autonomic nervous system, cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation and diseases. During her early research career, she published a few conference papers and posters in these areas. She's currently assisting the Cardiopulmonary Exercise Tests (CPET) as a Cardiopulmonary Technician - and part of the multidisciplinary team responsible for this equipment and tests performed, additionally comprising a Cardiologist and a Pulmonologist - used for cardiac and pulmonary patients, and research projects, at the ULS RL - Hospital Santo André, under ciTechCare. Sónia was a research fellow in the SafeTrack project - "Miniaturized wireless devices for continuous monitoring of patients in the emergency department", funded by the Agência Nacional de Inovação, where she collaborated in order to develop new tools able to detect adverse events in an early and effectively way inside an emergent context. For her work involved in physical activity and health science, both in research and hospital settings, she was granted a RUN-EU International RDI Mobility Research Grant, at the Technological University of the Shannon Midlands Midwest - Athlone Campus, Ireland. Given her academic background, and her interest in constant knowledge updating, this has led to her participation in several scientific courses, competitions and mainly congresses of interest, and also to her integration in the organizing committee of one of these. She was also invited to give academic sessions on "Pulmonary Function Tests - Spirometry" to the Physiotherapy Bachelor's degree at the Escola Superior de Saúde do Politécnico de Leiria, to participate in an oral presentation at a ciTechCare event - JournalClub in the field of Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (Clinical Practice and R&D), and present her work on the Autonomic Nervous System in the context of Cardiovascular Rehabilitation at the I Healthy Campus Conference, organized by the Politécnico de Leiria. Sónia is also a musician at the Filarmónica Nossa Senhora da Piedade, where she has been playing transversal flute since 2012.
