Tiago João Ferro holds a M.D. degree from NOVA Medical School (NMS|FCM-UNL), a MScEng degree in Biomedical Engineering and a Ph.D. degree in Bioengineering (Cell Therapies and Regenerative Medicine) from the University of Lisbon. Over the last years he explored the field of immuno-oncology, focusing on the functional role of sialylation in MHC-I antigen presenting molecules. In the past he also worked with stem cells, being involved in the ex-vivo blood production using umbilical cord blood stem cells at Imperial College London. Some years ago he was involved in exploring novel cartilage repair and replacement strategies using mesenchymal stem cells isolated from synovial tissues. His scientific interests encompass genetics, immunology, bioengineering of stem cells, quantum chemistry and drug design.
