Sonia Pinho is a faculty member at EUVG, Coimbra and she is also Researcher at Centro de Neurociencias (CNC). Her main passion is innovation, the challenge of transforming science into innovative technology. She understands the challenges of the multidisciplinary world and speaks several scientific languages: from physics to chemistry, from materials to biology, from science to innovative biotechnology. With 18 years of applied research experience in the fields of chemistry, physics, and biology, she has significantly contributed to cutting edge scientific research and has accumulated a unique skill set in the field of bionanotechnology. Her current research line is focused on controlled delivery of therapeutic agents mainly for ageing-related diseases. She is an expert in nanomedicine research and development. She has published several articles in international peer-reviewed journals with over 370 citations, including papers in high impact factor journals such as Nanoscale, Journal of Controlled Release, Biomaterials, and Nature Communications. In 2020 she has also submitted a worldwide patent. Finally, she has secured €250k from the National funding agency (FCT) to develop a platform for the delivery of gene editing therapies. Giving her the opportunity to start her own group.
