Paulo C. Lemos completed the Ph.D. in Biological Engineering in 2001 (Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Faculdade de Ciências e
Tecnologia), the Master in Biotechnology in 1992 (Universidade de Lisboa, Instituto Superior Técnico) and Degree in Biology
in 1989 (Universidade de Lisboa, Faculdade de Ciências). Since 2020 he is an Assistant Professor at NOVA School of Science
and Technology (FCT NOVA). P. C. Lemos is Principal Investigator in Laboratório Associado para a Química Verde, Rede de Química
e Tecnologia where he is leading the Microbial Ecology and Technology lab since 2009 in the area of Environmental Biotechnology.
In particular, research interests involve processes using mixed cultures for: Waste/wastewater treatment and reuse, Biological
nutrients removal, Biopolymers production, Bioremediation of soils, Microbial ecology, and Bioconsolidation and bioformulation
of building materials. He has been involved in 20 national and EU funded projects as participant or PI. In his professional
activities, he interacted with 367 collaborator(s) for the co-authorship of scientific papers. Paulo has published 59 papers
in international peer-review journals, 11 book chapters, has 1 patent registered, organised 5 events and received 11 awards.
He was involved in the supervision of 2 Post-Doc, 6 PhD thesis (2 supervisor + 4 co-supervisor), 8 MSs dissertations (5 supervisor
+ 3 co-supervisor), 16 research scholars, 24 undergraduate students and 6 foreigner students. He participated in 11 Ph.D.
juries, 23 MSc juries and 19 Degree juries. He is a member of the Editorial Board of Applied Environmental Microbiology, Frontiers
in Microbiology -Microbiotechnology and Frontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology - Bioprocess Engineering" He was the
editor of three Special Issues (2019: Polymer -MDPI "Synthesis and Production of Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) Biopolymers";
2020: Frontiers in Bioprocess Engineering, "Advances and Trends in Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) Biopolymer Production"; 2023:
Molecules - MDPI "Recent Advances in Microbial Polymers and Pigments"). He conducted peer review for 33 International journals.
Paulo has been carrying out the evaluation of research projects of both Academia and Industry for National institutions (FCT,
IAPMEI, ANI, ADI), and also International foundations (Italian, Dutch, Czech, Polish ESF, COST, EU28, EISMEA ).
