Luis Gomes works as a researcher since 2009 (before ending his BSc degree) and over the years he went through the various positions of a junior researcher. From 09/2017 till 01/2021, he held the position of Teaching Assistant in ISEP. Since October 2020 he is teaching in the MSc program on Artificial Intelligence, and from 02/2021 he holds the position of Adjunct Professor. Luis Gomes got his PhD in 2020 in Computer Engineering from the University of Salamanca (ES) with a classification of 30/30 achieving the highest grade (Sobresaliente "cum laude"). He has 2 MSc degrees, 1 in Multimedia from the University of Porto in 2020, with the dissertation classification of 18/20, and 1 in Computer Engineering (the domain of Decision Support Systems and Artificial Intelligence) from the Engineering School of Polytechnic Institute of Porto (ISEP) in 2013, with the dissertation classification of 20/20. Luis Gomes also has a postgraduate diploma, in Electronic Engineering, in Applied Mobile Computing. He has published more than 50 papers, 16 of each in peer-reviewed international journals and 1 book chapter. He is co-inventor of 1 European patent regarding microgrid simulation using hardware-in-the-loop. His research has been developed in the scope of 6 international and 4 national R&D projects, contributing with more than 20 building management models and close to 10 solution prototypes, some of which are still operating in laboratorial and pilot sites. Luis Gomes has won 2 national and 2 international awards in the following competitions: 3rd place in REN Prize 2014 for the best national dissertation in power and energy systems; 1st place in the 2013 European Satellite Navigation Competition (ESNC) Regional Portuguese Prize; 1st place in the 2013 ESNC University Challenge; and 1st place in the 2012 ESNC University Challenge. He also has 2 mentions in conferences: 2nd place for the best demonstration in PAAMS 2017, and 2nd place for the best student paper in the Best Paper Award in Clemson University Power Systems Conference 2016. For his PhD scholarship, Luis Gomes applied to a national FCT grant, in 2015, and was ranked 4th, out of 132, in the Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Informatics field. Over the years, Luis Gomes was involved in the supervision of 13 undergraduate international students, 31 undergraduate students (24 completed), and 8 postgraduate master students (5 completed) from the programs of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering-Power and Energy Systems, and Informatics Engineering. The accomplishments of Luis Gomes, in multiple domains and the multi-disciplinary academic path, demonstrates an above-average motivation and dedication in innovative and revolutionary ideas.
