This PhD candidate's main interests lie within conservation biology, focusing on non-human primate conservation within anthropogenic landscapes. Her academic background has given her a unique perspective that merges knowledge from the social sciences with the methods of conservation biology in order to provide a better understanding of the human dimensions in conservation efforts. Currently, she awaits to do the public defence of her Master's thesis - "Genetic portrayal of two colobine monkeys inhabiting a continuous forest in Gola Rainforest National Park". This candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology from 2013 to 2016, where she gained a strong foundation in social, cultural, and biological aspects of the field. She developed a keen interest in Primatology, pursuing afterwards an internship where she studied the socio-ecology of African primates from Guinea-Bissau of the Colobus genus, using data provided by Dr. Tânia Minhós Rodrigues. She then attended a Master's degree in Studies of Environment and Sustainability from 2017 to 2018, focusing on resource conservation, adaptation to climate change, and sustainable land-use planning. Darya S. later pursued a Master's degree in Conservation Biology in 2018, gaining hands-on experience in fieldwork and research. The candidate has also presented her research at conferences and was a research scholarship holder in 2021, where she contributed to the project "Behavioural and demographic responses of non-human primates to anthropogenic pressure in West Africa", pertaining to the Laboratory of Environmental Anthropology and Behavioural Ecology of CRIA. Her work focused on the analysis of genetic and socio-ecological data of two primate species of the Colobus genus, as well as the curation and organisation of fieldwork assets collected by Dr. Cláudia Sousa. This opportunity allowed her to expand her interests in non-human primate conservation in anthropogenic landscapes and to develop new multidisciplinary skills to be able to continue your academic career in this area.

2019/03/19 - 2019/03/19 Learning about MARISCO, a transparent and participatory approach that takes adaptation to climate change into account. Is unconstrained by any lack of scientific, evidence-based knowledge and thus open to all audiences. Follows the approach of a systematic “step-by-step” procedure which is based on conservation objects and a systemic analysis of all factors and threats that generate stress in territorial systems, with emphasis on conservation area. It also adopts the philosophy of an adaptive management philosophy applied to conservation projects.
