Artur Gil is a Biophysical Engineer and holds an MSc in Spatial Planning and a Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences. He is currently a Researcher in Geospatial Sciences and Technologies at the Ce3C - Centre for Ecology, Evolution, and Environmental Changes & Azorean Biodiversity Group, based at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology, University of the Azores (Ponta Delgada, Portugal). He also collaborates actively with IVAR - Research Institute for Volcanology and Risks Assessment, also based at the University of the Azores. His current research is focused on the development of geospatial applications, products, and indicators able to support decision-making on Spatial Planning, Nature Conservation, Coastal/Land Management, and Natural Hazards' mapping and assessment in Islands. He published two book chapters and about 40 papers in SCI-indexed peer-reviewed scientific journals. He edited two books. Artur Gil co-supervised successfully a Ph.D. Thesis and supervised three MSc. Theses. He is currently supervising 3 Ph.D. Theses and an MSc. Thesis on Geospatial science and applications in the fields of Earth, Environmental, Landscape, Forestry, and Agrarian Sciences. Artur Gil was already awarded seven highly competitive fellowships. He already was or currently is a member of several nationally (FCT) and internationally-funded (European Commission, MIT) R&D projects (e.g. H2020, FP7, PCT-MAC, and COST actions). He has already formally collaborated and published with about 200 scientists from many different countries and with diverse scientific backgrounds.
