Cheila Almeida is a researcher at IPMA dedicated to seafood sustainability, from a supply chain perspective, aiming to make both production and consumption of seafood more sustainable. Under her participation in the Neptunus European project she is responsible to introduce green economy strategies in the seafood sector based on life cycle assessment (LCA) to minimize environmental impacts and develop strategies based on circular economy that deliver new products. Cheila Almeida is a marine biologist with experience in science communication and research management. Before she worked for more than 2 years in science communication and outreach at Instituto de Medicina Molecular (iMM) and 3 years as a project manager of European projects in NMS-NOVA and iMM. After this, she moved to Nova SBE to work as communication officer for research where she coordinated science communication activities and gave support to institutional and internal communication. She moved from academia to work as a consultant at the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), a non-governmental organization, in a project that aimed to implement co-management in small-scale fisheries in Portugal. Recently, she worked for 1 year as science management and communication officer in the Biomolecular Engineering Lab, a multidisciplinary team with 20 members based at UCIBIO/FCT-NOVA, being responsible for the management of an EU project (ERC Starting Grant) and taking care of all the administrative, financial and communication tasks of the Lab, including those related to different research and innovation programs. She holds a PhD in Sea Sciences from Universidade de Lisboa related to ¿Seafood consumption in Portugal: Patterns, drivers and sustainability¿ which was based in two faculties (FCUL and FCT-NOVA/CENSE) and one research center in Sweden (RISE Research Institutes of Sweden). Before starting the PhD, she did a BSc in Marine Biology and a MSc in Marine Ecology, both from the University of Algarve. As a researcher she participated in several projects related to coastal fisheries and aquaculture, sustainable consumption, and marine biodiversity.
