Isabel Ermida (6E13-80E0-3EE1)

Curriculum Vitae

Isabel Ermida is Full Professor of Linguistics at the Department of English and North American Studies of the University of Minho, in Braga, Portugal. She holds a PhD on a linguistic approach to literary comedy (2002), published as a book by Mouton (2008), the research for which was conducted at Purdue University (USA), where she was a Visiting Scholar. She has held various admin positions over the years, such as Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities at the University of Minho, Head of the English Department, Director of the PhD in Language Sciences and of the Master's Degree in English Language, Literature and Culture, as well as Chair of the Portuguese Association for Anglo-American Studies (APEAA). Having been a University lecturer since 1991, her research activity has involved the study of the discursive and pragmatic strategies of English language usage in communicative contexts, both orally and in writing, and in both real and fictional forms. At present she is investigating online hate speech, especially with regard to the ideological construction of socially charged variables, such as gender, age, ethnicity, and social class.
