Pedro Escada Cardoso Baptista Fernandes graduated from Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon, in Molecular Biology and Genetics, in 2011. He then attended the Applied Microbiology masters program, at the same institution, with the thesis "Heterogeneity in Staphyloccoccus aureus response to ß-lactams" developed under the supervision of Professor Mariana Gomes de Pinho, concluded in 2013. Since then, he has joined Pinho's research group of Bacterial Cell Biology at Instituto de Tecnologia Química e Biológica, where he is currently enrolled in the Molecular Biosciences (MolBioS) PhD program. He is the co-author of 4 papers in international journals and has attended several scientific conferences in the field of bacterial cell biology as well as microscopy training courses. During his PhD work, he has developed his technical skills in Molecular Biology, Epifluorescence microscopy, Super-Resolution Microscopy and Fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS). Since 2019, he has joined the Portuguese Society of Microbiology.
