Fernando Lobo Pereira was awarded the title of Agregado (Habilitation) in 1997 by Universidade do Porto Faculdade de Engenharia, the PhD degree in Control Theory in 1986 from Imperial College London, and graduated in Engenharia Electrotécnica e de Computadores in 1980 by Universidade do Porto Faculdade de Engenharia. Research and Development Control, Estimation and Optimization theories and their application to the design of decision support systems for Cyber-Physical Systems in Robotics, Production, and Power Management. More specifically, he has been in many FP7 and H2020 EU, as well as national R&D projects – e.g., COVMAPS, SADCO, CON4COORD, NOPTILUS, SELSUS, REBORN, EUMR, IN2STEMPO, EMSODEV, STRIDE, UPWIND, TOCATTA, MAGIC, among many others, requiring advanced mathematical and computational techniques, such as non-smooth analysis, dynamic optimization, and impulsive control, hybrid systems, coordinated control, and machine learning, and their application in the management and control of complex systems, such as autonomous and/or networked systems arising mainly in multiple robotic vehicle systems, advanced manufacturing systems and power systems. He published more than 500 articles in highly regarded peer-reviewed journals and conferences. He has delivered more than 10 Plenary and many Invited Lectures in major international scientific events He has been visiting scholar at a number of institutions, notably, Imperial College, Lonon University - UK, UCB - California - USA, LSU - Louisiana - USA, USP - S. Paulo - Brasil, UNICAMP -Campinas - Brasil, S. Juan University - Argentina, UNESP- S-Paulo, Brasil, Peoples Friendship University of Russia (RUDN), Moscow, Russia, Moscow State University, Russia. External Technical Expert for the following activities: FCT (Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia), AdI, and ANI: evaluation of R&D project proposals, follow-up, and execution.
