Joana Lourenço completed her PhD in Molecular Biology and Genetics in 2012/07/13 by the University of Aveiro and obtained her Degree in Biology in 2006 by the University of Évora. She is a Researcher in the University of Aveiro in the research unit CESAM. She has published 36 articles in Q1 international peer reviewed journals and 2 book chapters and so far she has reviewed papers for 17 high quality scientific journals all Q1. She has an award for best oral presentation in an international conference. She works in the area(s) of radiobiology, particularly on the effects of ionizing radiation on humans (Genotoxicity; Biomarker research: Gene expression profiling and mutation analysis; DNA repair) and also on the area of environmental toxicology applied to radioecogenotoxicology (namely on uranium mines), particularly on the effects of exposure to ionizing radiation and metals on bioindicator species (Genotoxicity; Biomarker research: Gene expression profiling and mutation analysis; DNA repair). Also she is a member of the European Radioecology Alliance (ALLIANCE), she is the co-coordinator of the "Transgenerational effects" working group, she is the Portuguese representative in the council of the European Radiation Research Society, and she is also integrated in the National group of support to the analysis of Horizon Europe to specifically comment the EURATOM Research and Training Programme for the period 2021-2025 complementing Horizon Europe Framework Programme for Research and Innovation.
