Ana Rita Ferreira (ARF) holds a background in Biochemistry and is a PhD student at REQUIMTE/LAQV in the Faculty of Sciences of University of Porto (FCUP), where she enrolled in the Sustainable Chemistry Doctoral Programme. She has been granted a PhD scholarship by the Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics International Doctoral Programme (M2B-PhD, 2018-2022). ARF did her MSc in Biochemistry at FCUP/ICBAS and has been working in research projects focused on therapeutic strategies to treat human diseases. ARF initiated her research career in the tissue regeneration field, having established a co-culture system in fibrin hydrogels for cell transplantation and spinal cord injury repair in her MSc thesis at INEB. Later ARF was involved in projects aiming at nerve and bone regeneration as a research assistant at INEB/i3S. Currently, she is dedicated to tackle bacterial infections and antibiotic resistance, keeping the focus on the development of therapeutic approaches to improve human health. Her PhD project aims to obtain new peptide-ionic liquid conjugates with enhanced antibacterial activity and study their interactions with model membranes using biophysical tools, under the supervision of professors Paula Gameiro and Paula Gomes. She has co-authored 7 scientific articles (2 as first author), participated in several national and international meetings and has been engaged in several science outreach activities. As part of her PhD project, ARF presented her work in 5 international and 2 national conferences in the biophysics, peptides and microbiology fields.
