Carla Moura obtained her PhD from the MIT-Portugal Program in Bioengineering (2016). In addition, she has a Master's Degree in Product Development (2011) and a degree in Biomechanics (2008), both from the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria. Her research activities started in 2009 when she became a member of the Centre for Rapid and Sustainable Product Development of the Polytechnic of Leiria (CDRSP-PLeiria). In her master, she developed a selector of biomaterials for biomedical applications. During this time, she had the opportunity to participate in and organise several international scientific conferences, such as VR@P and ICTE conferences, and be part of the BioFab network (thematic Network on Biomanufacturing: Materials, Processes and Simulation. After her master, she was accepted in the MIT-Portugal PhD Program in Bioengineering and won a FCT grant [SFRH/BD/73970/2010] to develop the work entitled "Design and fabrication of zonal cartilage constructs". She focussed her work on medical biotechnology, bioengineering, and biomaterials, particularly interested in the manipulation of biomaterials using mainly Additive Manufacturing Techniques combined with cells, such as mesenchymal stem cells, for the regeneration of cartilage. Afterwards, she returned to CDRSP-PLeiria as a post-doc in the MATIS project [CENTRO-01-0145-FEDER-000014 –3362], became part of the scientific council of the CDRSP-PLeiria and helped in the management of science of the research centre. From 2017 to 2022, she was a Guest Professor in the Physiotherapy Degree of the School of Health (PLeiria); from 2021-2022, she was a junior researcher of the CDRSP-PLeiria and responsible for the Biofabrication Lab of the CDRSP-PLeiria. Over the last years, she was part of several research projects, such as Biodiscus project [CENTRO-01-0247-FEDER-039969], Stimuli2Bioscaffolds [PTDC/EME-SIS/32554/2017], OptiBioScaffold [PTDC/EME-SIS/4446/2020] and InSilico4OCReg [PTDC/EME-SIS/0838/2021]. Since November 2022, she has been an assistant researcher at the Institute of Applied Research (I2A) of the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra. She is the author of 1 awarded Portuguese Utility Model, 1 awarded national patent and 2 others submitted, in which one of them is under revision to internationalisation. She is the editor of 1 book, published 3 book chapters, 29 scientific papers, 21 conference proceedings, and she was Chair of a Session of the RESIM2022 international conference. Moreover, she was a reviewer for the Acta Biomaterialia journal and Biocybernetics & Biomedical Engineering journal and she was also part of the jury of 3 research grants. She has (co-)supervised 5 masters, 13 undergraduate and 4 PhD students.
