Ana graduated with a BSc degree in Chemistry in 2005 from the University of the Algarve. Her final thesis focussed on the endo-selective Diels Alder reaction of heterocycles in phosphonium ionic liquids, under the supervision of Dr Nazira Karodia (University of Bradford, UK) and Dr Ana Rosa Costa (University of the Algarve, Portugal). All the experimental work was performed at the University of Bradford. In October of 2005, Ana was offered a PhD position at the University of York (UY) under the supervision of Prof. Simon Duckett and Dr Richard Douthwaite. During her PhD studies, she developed skills in scientific study design, data analysis, written/oral communication, student training and monitoring. As part of the training, she supervised inorganic and general chemistry laboratory practicals for a continuous period of 3 years. The PhD thesis was entitled Photocatalysis: Carbonylation of alkanes and arenes and the PhD grant was sponsored by the UY and Sasol (a multinational company). The thesis focussed on the mechanism of photochemically induced carbonylation of hydrocarbons using RhCl(CO)2L where L = phosphine type complexes, using NMR methods. Ana completed her PhD in Chemistry in November of 2009. At the beginning of 2010, Ana joined the group of Prof. Isabel Gonçalves at the University of Aveiro (CICECO) as a post-doctoral fellow. In 2015, Ana was awarded a post-doctoral fellowship grant from the FCT (SFRH/BPD/108541/2015). During her post-doctoral activities, Ana was able to synthesize and characterize a series of organic ligands, inorganic and organometallic complexes followed by their immobilization in either mesoporous silicas, layered double hydroxides, metal-organic frameworks, cyclodextrins or cucurbiturils. In the beginning of 2019, Ana was awarded an Assistant Researcher position from the FCT (CEECIND/02128/2017) as PI. Her current research interests include the preparation of homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts, hybrid organic-inorganic materials, bioorganometallic chemistry and the development of carbon monoxide-releasing molecules. At the moment, Ana is co-author of 82 papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals (h-index = 23), and has engaged national academic collaborations with CESAM-UA, CICECO-UA, University of Porto, University of Coimbra, University of Algarve, New University of Lisbon; international academic collaborations with the Univ. York (Simon B. Duckett) and Edinburgh Napier University (Nazira Karodia), and industrial collaborations with Targtex SA and energy corporation GALP. Ana has over 90 poster communications at national/international conferences.
