Telma Encarnação is a researcher in Chemistry, Biotechnology and Environmental Pollution at the Coimbra Chemistry Centre (CQC)/Institute of Molecular Sciences (IMS), University of Coimbra, and at the Centre for rapid and sustainable product development (CDRSP-PLeiria). She holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry (2019), a Master´s degree in Chemistry (2009), and a First Degree in Industrial Chemistry (2007) from the University of Coimbra. Her research focuses on bioremediation using algae and the sustainable transformation of emerging pollutants to produce bio-based products. She has 14 published publications (H-index: 7), one book, seven book chapters, and several communications in scientific meetings, and she is the first author of a patent nº 110536 PT 2018. She has participated as a Researcher in several projects and is the Project Coordinator of two National Projects (FCT and PT2020). She was the founder of an optical services company. She is the founder of a science-based startup, R&D StockMarket, and the founder and CEO of a biobased industry, PTScience. She is a regular member of the international panel on chemical pollution (IPCP). She is an independent expert evaluator for the European Commission Horizon Europe program.
