Claudio Alexandre Piedade is a postdoctoral researcher at the Mathematics Centre of the UJniversidade do Porto (CMUP). He has a MSc in Biochemistry from Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa and a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the Universidade de Aveiro. Over the past few years, Claudio has worked on several research topic related to mathematical models of viral capsid disassembly, classification of families of incidence geometries and faithful permutation representations of automorphism groups of regular polytopes, maps and hypertopes, being a pioneer in the field of studying the degrees of faithful transitive permutation representations of groups. Particularly, his study on faithful transitive permutation representations of regular maps proved to be an essential tool in constructing new unknown families of incidence geometries, moving forward the young but growing study of hypertopes. In this context, Claudio has already published 6 papers in top international journals of the area, and 2 papers in international conferences. Furthermore, his study on faithful transitive permutation representations have led him to develop a software package for the Mathematical programming language GAP ("Groups, Algorithms and Programming"). Nowadays, he has been focusing on applying his knowledge to the study of chiral polytopes and hypertopes, as the classification of these for higher ranks has been a long-standing hard problem in the area. With the tools developed earlier on faithful transitive permutation representations of the automorphism groups of small chiral polytopes, Claudio believes he will be able to construct families of chiral polytopes for higher ranks, proving again the usefulness of the tools he has developed, achieving the goal of answering Grünbaum's problem. Moreover, the study of the limits of the ranks of regular polytopes which the automorphism groups are neither the symmetric group nor the alternating group has become a recent interest of Claudio's current research.
