Mehdi Hedayati received his bachelor's (BSc) and master's (MSc) degrees in Material Science and Engineering from Isfahan University of Technology, Iran, in 2006 and 2010, respectively. During bachelor's project, he worked on squeeze casting of LM13 Aluminum alloy used for automobile engine pistons. For his MSc thesis, he focused on surface engineering including coatings, wear, and tribology. He mainly worked on tribological and mechanical properties of polymer-based nanocomposite coatings. His academic and research background spans a wide range of materials engineering domains, with a particular focus on synthesis and characterization of electroceramics and energy-related materials including dielectric, ferroelectric, piezoelectric and thermoelectric materials. His expertise extends to nanostructured materials especially, polymer and ceramic nanocomposites, ceramic processing of nanoparticles, nanofibers and nanotubes, (including sol-gel, tape casting, electrospinning, sintering and calcination processes), coatings, surface engineering and tribology as well as chemical surface functionalization of nanomaterials. Throughout his research journey, he has been the author and co-author of 14 research papers, published in peer-reviewed journals and international conferences. He has acquired extensive hands-on experience in a broad range of materials synthesis and characterization techniques including XRD (with Rietveld refinement), Raman spectroscopy, TEM, SEM, FTIR, DSC-TGA, dielectric spectroscopy, ferroelectric testing, electrical and electrochemical characterizations. In September 2017, he joined a research group at Tarbiat Modares University as a research fellow, and worked on polymer-ceramic nanocomposite films as dielectric materials for energy storage applications. He then spent one year (2018 - 2019) as a visiting researcher at the Laboratory for High-Performance Ceramics at EMPA Laboratories, Switzerland, to deepen his knowledge and experience in the fields of dielectric spectroscopy, energy storage characterization of dielectric films, electrospinning synthesis of BaTiO3 nanotubes and nanofibers. He also has several years of industrial experience as a material selection specialist, welding and piping consulter as well as the NDT Specialist in oil, gas, and refinery industries. Since January 2024, he is enrolled into the doctoral course of Materials Science and Engineering at the Department of Materials and Ceramic Engineering (DEMaC), University of Aveiro.
