A. Benetti is Assistant Researcher at the University of Aveiro/INET-md and has developed an extensive work on expressivity and piano performance, autoethnography, artistic research, music and technology, and experimentation in music. He is PI of a funded project at the competitive CEEC 2020 - Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus/FCT, focused on the history of the piano and related practices in Portugal. Benetti is also PI of the funded project TransVariations – Music Beyond the Limits of Time and Technology (EEA Grants – 2023/24 - partnership with Norges Teknisk-Naturvitenskapelige/Trondheim, and Porto Polytechnic Institute) – addressing the use of innovative technological approaches to problematize the relationship between artistic creation and interpretation in the context of Western-art Music. He was also one of the authors/coordinators (co-PI) of the Xperimus Project - Experimentation in music in Portuguese culture: History, contexts and practices in the 20th and 21st centuries (2018-22); funded by FCT in the 2017 Call for SR&TD Project Grants. He is creator/coordinator of the artistic research group Xperimus Ensemble, funded by dgARTES (National Directorate of Arts) in 2018/2019 on 2 projects: Capdeville XXI (2018 - he was also artistic director) and Double (2019). Benetti has published articles in several international scientific journals (e.g. Acervo; Studies in Musical Theatre, Opus, Contemporary Music Review, Orfeu), participated in conferences; coordinated and participated in artistic residencies, performances, workshops and lectures. Since 2017 he is member of the founding committee of the IMPAR platform - Initiatives, Meetings and Publications on Artistic Research; associate editor and founder of the ÍMPAR-Online Journal for Artistic Research; and coordinator of Research Hands-On Piano International Conference (pioneering Artistic Research activities in Portugal). In this context, he participated in the edition of 6 volumes of ÍMPAR Journal (2017-2023); he is one of the idealizers/authors of the Cahiers of Artistic Research; is author of several publications related to scientific events; and has participated in round tables/plenary sessions on artistic research with renowned researchers (e.g. Darla Crispin, Lina Martinelli, Rúben Cano). Since 2015 he has been supervisor of master's (6), PhD (6) and post-doctoral (2) works in Portugal and abroad; participated in teaching activities at the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, is Associated Invited Teacher at the Superior School of Applied Arts - IPCB/Castelo Branco in partnership with University of Aveiro (2021-2024); taught Curricular Units at the University of Aveiro between 2023-24 (Masters in Music and PhD in Music); and is often invited to undergraduate, master’s and doctorate teaching activities at UA - where he also participates regularly in evaluation panels. He actively takes part in artistic and scientific commissions of international conferences; evaluation panels of scientific journals (i.e. Opus Journal, Vortex Journal); in research groups (i.e. SPIM and GRUME) and jury of academic degrees (Master/PhD) in Portugal and abroad. He is deeply involved in dissemination of science: published 7 books related to scientific events; organized more than 10 international conferences; participated in more than 30 conferences as speaker; was invited speaker in Belgium, Brazil and Portugal; participated in several editorial commissions and in 3 research societies. In collaboration with 2 FCT funded projects, he published 4 books (2017 to 2020) on musical works by Frederico de Freitas and Elvira de Freitas; and is coordinator of the Euterpe publishing editions. As a pianist, his recent artistic production involves absolute premieres of works by important contemporary composers (e.g. Steve Reich) in Portugal and the dissemination of works by Portuguese woman composers. Finally, he is coeditor and author of the book Fashion, Music and Feeling (2016).
