Moisés Luzia Pinto (MLP) (b. 1976) is Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon. MLP obtained the Ph.D. in Chemistry (Physical Chemistry), at the end of 2005, at the University of Lisbon. Developed Post-doctoral research at the Center of Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (CQB) and at the Centre for Research in Ceramics and Composite Materials (CICECO) of the University of Aveiro. After obtaining the Ph.D., he also worked for the chemical industry as an external consultant and as manager of R&D laboratories (General Manager of R&D) and was a cofounder of the start-up company Adsorfoam (Chairman of the Board from 2007 to 2010 and Chairman of the General Assembly from 2010 to 2014). From 2013 to 2014, he was Research Assistant at CICECO (University of Aveiro). From 2014, he joined the Chemical Engineering Department of Instituto Superior Técnico - ULisboa, as Assistant Professor and is Associate Processor since 2021. From 2017 to 2018 was member of the executive committee of the Chemical engineering department of IST, from 2020 to 2021 was member of the executive committee of IST, and from 2021 to 2023 was President of research center CERENA in IST. From 2016 to 2023 was Assistant Secretary General of the Portuguese Chemical Society and since 2022 is member of the executive board of the Adsorption Experts Group of the Royal Spanish Chemical Society. MLP has been developing research in the field of adsorbent materials and related applications in the past 15 years, with several types of materials. In more recent years, the work has been focused on the application of materials for gas separation/purification, gas storage and therapeutic gas delivery. He successfully developed and studied hybrid materials and associated processes for challenging separations such as ethylene purification from ethane/ethylene mixtures and biogas/natural gas upgrading. He has also been tuning the properties of materials for the storage and therapeutic delivery of nitric oxide. He has been strongly engaged in the development of very selective hybrid materials for acetic acid capture that can be applied in cultural heritage preservation.
