Sílvia Barbeiro. She is an Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematics of the University of Coimbra, member of the Numerical Analysis and Optimization group of the Centre for Mathematics of University of Coimbra. She received her PhD degree in Applied Mathematics in 2005 from the University of Coimbra. She was a visiting research fellow at the University of Texas at Austin during the Spring and Fall semesters of 2008, at the Acoustics Research Institute of The Austrian Academy of Sciences during the academic year of 2015/2016 and at the University of Oxford during the trinity term of 2016. Published 29 articles in journals. Has 4 sections of books. Co-supervised 2 PhD thesises. Has received 2 awards and/or honors. Works in the areas of Exact Sciences with emphasis on Mathematics. Her research interests are in numerical analysis and computational mathematics, including modeling and the development and analysis of numerical methods for partial differential equations and integro-differential equations, and machine learning for PDEs. Her research focuses on theory an applications namely problems in biomathematics, engineering, geosciences and medical imaging.
