Carla Moleiro is an Associate Professor in the Psychology Department of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities of ISCTE - Lisbon University Institute. She holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara (2003). Her M.Sc. in Counselling Psychology was also obtained at UCSB, after an exchange period in the U.K. (University of Reading) and her initially training as a Clinical Psychologist at the School of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Lisbon. She is a certified psychotherapist by the Portuguese Association of Cognitive-Behavioral and Integrative Psychotherapies. Carla Moleiro is an expert on mental health and well-being of social minority and stigmatized group members. She has been developing teaching, clinical and research projects on mental health disparities, focusing on gender, migrant, refugee, ethnic minority, and sexual and gender identity minority (LGBTQIA+) populations. Her work is positioned within critical clinical & health psychology and also includes issues of community psychology, ethics, evidence-based interventions with vulnerable populations, and the protection of at-risk children and youth, including trans* and gender diverse youths. Her work also envolves community projects, advocacy and public policy development, anchored in theoretical models and empirical data. Transfer and extension activities are centered in professional training of different stakeholders in clinical diversity & multicultural competencies. She was a member and the President of the Jurisdictional Board of the Portuguese Board of Psychologists. She was a member of the Cultural and Ethnic Diversity Task Force of the European Federation of Psychology Associations. She is currently the Director of the Center for Psychological Research and Social Intervention (Cis-Iscte).
