I graduated in Biology, with a specialization in Evolutionary and Developmental Biology, from the Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon in 2016. Following a one-year internship at the Computational Biology and Populations Genomics (CoBiG2) group from cE3c, I pursued my MSc studies in the master's course of Evolutionary and Developmental Biology at FCUL. During my first year of the MSc course, I had the opportunity to collaborate on the GLobal Urban Evolution (GLUE) Project. This initiative studied the evolution of hydrogen cyanide production, along with urban-rural gradients, in white clover (Trifolium repens). This project provided the largest scale, best-replicated test of parallel evolution ever attempted (Santangelo et al., 2022, DOI: 10.1126/science.abk0989). From 2018 to 2021, I developed my MSc thesis, within the EUCLIPO project (PTDC/BIA-ECO/28360/2017), on the impact of agricultural expansion on the neutral and adaptive genetic variability of wild bees, under the supervision of Dr. Octávio S. Paulo (CoBiG2, cE3c) and co-supervision of Drª Luísa G. Carvalheiro (UFG, cE3c). The EUCLIPO project allowed me to be granted a research grant and be entirely creative and independent in research for the first time. During that time, I developed my programming and bioinformatics skills. In my population structure, population genomics, and community-level modeling analyses, I studied the magnitude of allele frequencies turnover and the ecological drivers that shape the adaptation of wild bees populations to small-scale farming landscapes. When I was learning how to apply community-level modeling approaches to my data, I had the opportunity to work on a paper that used those approaches to predict climate response and adaptation in Cork Oak (Vanhove et al., 2021, DOI: 10.1111/jeb.13765 ). Between 2020-2021, during the time I was writing my MSc thesis, I started working on the Keep Pace project (PTDC/ASP-SIL/29263/2017), with a research grant of 15 months, which allowed me to carry out fieldwork in the western Mediterranean region and to be involved in the laboratory work. I presented my MSc thesis on the 30th of July 2021, with the final classification of 19 values. Since then, I was contracted as a technician for the ExplorAR project (FCT PTDC/BIA-BMA/31451/2017) to proceed with the extraction and sequencing of DNA from cyanobacteria using the R10.4 Oxford Nanopore Technology. Subsequently, the metagenomic data will be subject to bioinformatic analysis. I am also involved in the RESICLIM project (FCT 20191360996P), a follow-up on the EUCLIPO project (PTDC/BIA-ECO/28360/2017). Its main aim is to identify insect traits (e.g., body size and diet) and assemblage characteristics (genetic diversity) that influence their susceptibility to climate change considering interactive effects with other environmental changes (e.g., environmental eutrophication).
