Inês Silva Costa finished the Degree in Pharmacy, in 2020, at School of Health Sciences-Polytechnic Institute of Porto, and the Master in Analytical, Clinical and Forensic Toxicology, in 2022, at Faculty of Pharmacy-University of Porto(FFUP. IC main areas of research are Medical and Health Sciences, with emphasis on Basic Medicine, highlighting Toxicology, Pharmacology and Pharmacy fields. During the Master's degree, IC deepened her knowledge in the emerging field of neurodegeneration and ferroptosis, performing an extensive literature review intitled "Molecular mechanisms of ferroptosis and their involvement in brain diseases" on the scope of the curricular unit Seminar, and which was recently published as a review article in a high impact journal(Pharmacology & Therapeutics,IF=13.4). The knowledge on neurodegenerative diseases was further improved through the development of her Master Thesis entitled "In vitro study of Innovative Antiparkinsonian agents: evaluation of their toxicological profile and neuroprotective potential". The Master's thesis was developed at UCIBIO-Laboratory of toxicology of FFUP, in close collaboration with CIQUP/IMS (Chemistry Research Unit, Institute of Molecular Sciences, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, FCUP). During the Master's degree, IC developed advanced skills in cell culture, evaluation of drug-induced cytotoxicity, assessment of P-glycoprotein (P-gp) activity, and in distinct biochemical assays. IC was also involved in the Project Co-Funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union entitled "OEMONOM: Open access Educational Materials on Naturally Occurring Molecules - sources, biological activity and use"(https://portal.faf.cuni.cz/OEMONOM/EN/Home/). IC also actively participated in the preparation of laboratorial classes of the curricular unit of Mechanistic Toxicology from the Integrated Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences of FFUP, directed by Prof. Fernando Remião. IC was responsible for the preparation of cell cultures to evaluate Verapamil- and Zosuquidar-mediated P-gp inhibition in SH-SY5Y cells, using rhodamine 123 as a P-gp fluorescent substrate. IC is first author of 2 review articles, 1 already published in Pharmacology & Therapeutics(DOI:https://doi.org/10.1016/j.pharmthera.2023.108373) and another published in Pharmaceutics (IF=6.525; https://doi.org/10.3390/pharmaceutics15051369). IC is also co-author of a review article published in Pharmaceuticals(IF=5.215;DOI:10.3390/ph16020311) and a research article published in Pharmaceutics(DOI 10.3390/pharmaceutics15041035). To further disseminate her research, IC is first author/co-author of 7 abstracts in conference proceedings, 8 poster communications and 1 oral communication.
