João Tasso de Figueiredo Borges de Sousa is a Professor at the ECE Department of Porto University and the head of the Laboratório de Sistemas e Tecnologia Subaquática – LSTS. He holds a PhD and an MSc in Electrical Engineering. His research interests include multi-domain unmanned vehicles, planning/execution control for networked vehicle systems, and applications to the ocean sciences, security, and defence. He received the BES Innovation National Award in 2006, an outstanding teaching award fro Porto University in 2008, and the IEEE Ocean Engineering Society mid-career Rising Star award in 2018 He is an Associate Editor of the IEEE Journal of Oceanic Engineering and has authored over 400 publications, including 50 journal papers. Has received 10 awards and/or honors.

O trabalho foi desenvolvido no âmbito da tese de mestrado deste aluno que teve por co-orientadores Renato Mendes (Colab +Atlantico e FEUP) and Joana Fonseca (KTH, Sweden).

2010/01/01 - Current Co-fundou, com a Marinha Portuguesa, o exercício anual Rapid Environmental Picture (REP) em 2010. Em 2014 o Center for Maritime Research and Experimentation da NATO juntou-se também à organização. Este exercício, que passou a ter a designação Robotic Experimentation and Prototyping Augmented by Maritime Unmanned Systems – REPMUS a partir de 2019, é actualmente co-organizado pela Marinha Portuguesa, pelo LSTS FEUP, pelo Center for Maritime Research and Experimentation da NATO e pela iniciativa Maritime Unmanned Systems também da NATO.
