Olga Solovova is a Researcher at the Centre for Social Studies, University of Coimbra (CES-UC), being a member of the Humanities, Migrations and Peace Studies research group at the same centre. Having won one of the most competitive scholarships in Europe (Maria Sklodowska-Curie Action) with a project on New Speakers and the use of Russian language on the Norwegian-Russian border, Solovova developed post-doctoral research in multilingualism in borderlands, using the method of mediated discourse analysis (nexus analysis). After completing the research fellowship at the Centre for Multilingualism in Society across the Lifespan (MultiLing) at the University of Oslo, Norway (09/2018-10/2020), Solovova returned to Portugal to continue her research career and find the interdisciplinary path to be fully recognised and sustained on a long-term basis. MA in Descriptive Linguistics (Sociolinguistics and Sociology of Language, 2007), PhD in Modern Languages and Literatures (Sociolinguistics, 2014) by the University of Coimbra, Portugal. Author of 25 academic publications, including 8 peer-reviewed single-author and 8 peer-reviewed co-authored journal articles and chapters in research volumes, 4 non-refereed scientific articles, 3 co-organised special journal issues, 2 research reports, 1 translation of a work of arts and 2 theses. Solovova has been personally involved in several national and European research actions from their inception to practical implementation, communication and extension of results, which enabled her to lead her own and distribute team efforts within different interdisciplinary research projects. She has received 3 individual grants (MA and PhD, post-doc) from the National Foundation for Science and Technology (Portugal) and European Commission; collaborated in writing of 3 funded proposals (2 academic projects and 1 community project). Working individually and in teams across different thematic areas of Social Sciences and Humanities, Solovova has learned to implement a range of quantitative and qualitative methods in Social Sciences: surveys, group and individual interviews, focus groups and biographical workshops, discourse analysis and visual methods within action research and linguistic ethnography. Solovova is a member of editorial board of 1 peer-reviewed journal and referee for the Scientific Series in Linguistics of the Finnish Literature. Supervisory experience includes 2 PhD students and 1 MA student. Member of various international research networks, among them New Speakers in a multilingual Europe and Association for Discourse Studies in Society (EDiSo). Co-organised more than 12 international events of different formats, from a roundtable (20-30 participants) to a symposium (up to 350 participants). Solovova is a founding member, co-organiser and instructor of the advanced training cycle "Publish-do-not-Perish: Survive the Stampede" (2016-2020) at the CES-UC, Portugal. Drawing from her research interests in life trajectories, language ideologies and policies, visual discourses, linguistic citizenship, and construction of linguistic/cultural identity in multilingual societies, Solovova has developed a unique and ambitious career in linguistic research in dialogue with sociology, information science, STS, education and anthropology. Over the years, Solovova has gained cutting edge knowledge and technological skills that may help advance her career conceptually and methodologically.
