Cláudia S. F. Oliveira holds a Degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Ceara State, Fortaleza, Brazil, as well as a Postgraduate degree in Microbiology. She pursued further education, earning a Master's degree in Pathology of Tropical Diseases from the Institute of Tropical Medicine at the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), Brazil, and a PhD in Pathology and Molecular Genetics from the Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar (ICBAS) at the University of Porto, Portugal. During her doctoral studies, she focused on identifying novel targets for colorectal cancer prevention and treatment using 2D cell culture models. From 2019 to 2022, she contributed her expertise to the COMPASS Research Group at the University of Aveiro, Portugal. In this role, she served as a Postdoctoral researcher and Junior Researcher, actively involved in 2 ERC projects and 8 FCT projects. Specializing in Cell/Molecular Biology and Medical Biotechnology, Cláudia explored the integration of umbilical cord (UC)-derived cells with biomaterials to engineer humanized microenvironments with significant regenerative potential. These bioengineered 3D models offer versatile platforms for fundamental biological research, such as investigating bone formation mechanisms, hematopoiesis, immune responses, and the initiation/progression of bone-related pathologies. Additionally, they serve as innovative drug screening platforms, presenting alternatives to animal experimentation and promising applications in Regenerative Medicine. From October 2022, Cláudia embraced a new challenge as a Junior Researcher in the Be@t Project - Bioeconomy in Textiles, funded by European funds allocated to Portugal through the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP). In this new role, she collaborates closely with the Superior School of Biotechnology (UCP, Porto), CITEVE (a Portuguese Textile Company), and CENTI (a European Biotech company). Her current focus involves investigating the biological properties of various plant extracts for potential integration into textiles, aiming to develop sustainable textiles for biomedical applications.
