I am a highly motivated PhD student at the University of Aveiro, a Groningen University MSc (2023/12) and a Plymouth University BSc (2021/07) in Marine Biology, with extensive experience in global change biology research. I have been employed as a research assistant at the University of Aveiro (2024/04 - 2024/10) and a teaching assistant at the University of Groningen (2023/04 - 2023/05). I contributed to one research article published in a peer reviewed journal, and am working towards the publication of three more, two currently available as preprints. I have published my BSc thesis in a scientific e- journal and presented it at the International Conference for Young Marine Researchers (2021). I furthermore presented my MSc research thesis at the International Conference for Young Marine Researchers (2024) and was awarded second best talk. I possess skills in data management and analysis, molecular laboratory techniques and physiological research. I have been and am involved in multiple extracurricular activities, amongst which I am a member of the EUROMARINE network OYSTER working group and a postgraduate member of the Marine Biological Association of the UK. I am determined to pursue an academic career with the goal of contributing to our collective efforts to safeguard marine environments.

Scientific expedition

Activity description Institution / Organization
2022/11/24 - 2022/12/23 I was part of a one month long fieldwork expedition in the Country of Curaçao. Here, I tested and optimised methodologies for ocean acidification research using different species of cnidarians: Bunodeopsis antillensis and Cassiopea xamachana. Part of this included the planning and testing of multiple experimental set ups and the recording of metabolic rate and critical thermal limit. Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, Netherlands
2022/03/10 - 2022/03/14 I participated in a sea grass seeding expedition with Dr. Laura Govers’ team. This was part of a very large restoration project: ”Waddenmozaïek Project”. It involved cohabiting in a boat and physically demanding field work in mud flats. Rijksuniversiteit Groningen Faculteit voor Wiskunde en Natuurwetenschappen, Netherlands
2019/06/16 - 2019/07/12 I completed my PADI Dive Master qualification, assisting instructors in open water and advanced open water courses, as well as leading and organizing scientific dives. I worked as a research assistant in a coral nursery project, maintaining the rope coral nursery, and participating in setting up new nursery systems. Operation Wallacea Ltd, United Kingdom
2018/08/07 - 2018/08/13 I contributed to expand the Tethys Institute dataset by collecting data on marine mammals in the Pelagos Sanctuary. I assisted with photo identification techniques, surveys, and behavioral sampling while sharing accommodation on the Pelagos research boat. Tethys Research Institute, Italy
